Hi Parents
It was nice to be back at school and see your beautiful children.
Thank you for making sure your child read during the holidays and for filling in their reading log. We only have 1 more to come in! Mr Macmillan collects these in and the prize draw will be at this Friday's assembly. Good luck everyone!

All of the holiday reading photos were so great that I couldn't decide on a winner. I put the children's names in a container and drew 3 names out. Max was the winner and received a Warehouse gift voucher. Congratulations Max!

Reports and Portfolios
I hope you enjoyed reading your child's report and sharing their portfolio with them. Thank you for the positive feedback.
Portfolios are to be returned to school this week so that this term's work can be put in them. They will come home at the end of the year for you to keep.

Parent Interviews - Monday and Tuesday
If your child is at or above standard, it is not essential that you make a time for an interview. The interviews are specifically for parents of children who may be working slightly below the standard or are having some difficulty at school. I have sent a note home on your child's wrist if they are in my target group.
However, if you would still like to make an interview time, I'll be happy to see you.

The NED show - Tuesday 9am in the hall
NED stands for Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best. It is a school assembly about positive behaviour. The website for further information is www.thenedshow.com. Each child should have brought home a notice regarding NED show yo-yo's for sale. These will be available this week if you wish to purchase any.

Maori language week
This week is Maori language week, so we will be doing lots of Maori language activities in class this week.

Kia pai to wiki   (key-ar   pie   tore  weeky)
Have a good week.

Welcome back to term 3 everyone!
I hope you all had a lovely break and are ready for another great term of learning and fun!

Holiday reading photos
The holiday reading photos uploaded to the padlet so far are great! The rest of you have until Friday to upload your pic too.
There is a great prize up for grabs...

Holiday reading logs
Can these please be returned to me this week. Remember- they don't need to be completely filled in.
There are some neat prizes to be won in Mr Macmillan's holiday reading log draw too!

Portfolios and Reports
These will both be coming home this Wednesday.

Junior Report: Your child will be getting a mid-year report. It has 3 graphs which show where your child is achieving in relation to The National Standards in Reading, Writing and Maths.

At the end of the report is a box with a few sentences of what your child can do, and some suggestions for next steps in their learning.

The end of year report will be in more detail.

Portfolios: Your child's portfolio will contain a range of assessments from term 1 and term 2. It includes teacher assessments, self assessments, formal testing and practical examples of work.
If there is a blank page in your child's portfolio, it means they were absent when the assessment took place. It is too hard to catch every child up on these.

All Portfolios need to be returned in week 2 so that this term's work can be put into them.

Term 3 Learning Overview
* Concept
This term we are learning about Cycles: the sun, moon, night and day.

* Religious Education
Our focus is around the Church Strand. We are learning how we belong, participate and celebrate being a part of our whanau, our school and our parish.

* Reading
We get straight into our Reading Programme from week 1.
Our focus this term is on fluency, expression and comprehension.

*Writing
In writing we will focus on both recount and explanation writing.
Explanation writing is when you explain why or how something happens.
The children will be learning how to add more detail to their stories, use full-stops and capital letters correctly and consistently proofread their work to ensure it makes sense.

*Spelling
Spelling homework will resume in week 2.

*Mathematics
Number knowledge and strategies are our focus from Monday to Thursday.

Our Maths strand focus on Fridays this term is Time. We will look at days, months, seasons and telling the time on digital and analogue clocks.
Maths homework will also resume in week 2.

This term we also have Cross country, Parent interviews, Maori language week, The NED show, Mary MacKillop Day, Masses and Liturgies.
So make sure to check the blog and the school newsletter regularly :)

Have a lovely week.

Holiday Reading Competition- Room 9

Take a photo of your child reading in a strange place/position during the holidays and add it to the padlet below. The best photo will win a prize!
Here are some ideas:

Just a reminder that we want 100% of our reading logs filled in and returned after the holidays. It doesn't need to be filled in completely, just write in what they have read. Your child should have 5 readers in their book bag to read during the holidays.

You can also list recipes, instructions or maps they have read, as well as books you have read to your child.
Our Public Library is fantastic and has great holiday programmes for children.
And don't forget about the huge number of library of books on Reading Eggs.

Haka powhiri for Bishop Steven

Today we were privileged to have Bishop Steven visit our school.
The haka powhiri the children performed to welcome him was wonderful.

Then after morning tea he came into our class and talked to us about his role as our Bishop. The children asked him some great questions too.
