Hi Parents.
Well this week we are halfway through the term!
Thank you so much for the wonderful support you give your children at home with their reading, spelling and maths.

Reduce, reuse and recycle
This week we are reusing tin cans and turning these into pencil tins. The children will need to bring an empty and clean tin can and any ribbon, crafty bits, googly eyes etc that they might need to bring their ideas to life. I have paint, glue and a few extra bits and pieces.

Have an awesome week, and don't forget to do your homework below :)

Reading praise

Each week I try a new strategy to get the children motivated to learn. Last week and this week my focus is on "Praise". Parents, your homework this week is to write something positive to your child about their reading. We will be checking the blog in class during the week to see who has completed their homework :)

Hi Parents.
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful Autumn weather. This week our class will be going on an Autumn walk so we can truly marvel at God's beautiful creation!

Reading
We have a slight change in our normal routine this week as I have to do reading testing.
Apart from the children in my 2 target reading groups, your child may choose a book from their coloured book box to take home.
If they have chosen a book that is difficult, please help them along. Before giving them the word, ask them to sound it out, check the picture for a clue and think about what would make sense before telling them the word.

If they have chosen a book that is easy, that's fine, it will enhance their fluency.

Please keep reading time light, fun and positive.  Praise them for the things they did well "That was such a good try at that word.  You looked at the first sound didn't you?"  I love the way you stopped and fixed that mistake by yourself - that's what good readers do".
After they have read, please check their comprehension by asking them a few questions about the story.

Thank you for your continued support.

Writing
The writing is coming along nicely now. This week we will continue our learning around persuasive writing, and will be writing about Autumn.
I will try and get some more published work up for you to admire.

Maths
In class this week we will be looking at place value.

Your child will bring home another maths sheet to do for homework.

RE
We will continue our learning around God and his creations this week, but will finish off the Ascension and the Pentecost.

Pentecost is the celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit.  Here are some links to help you talk about this wonderful celebration with your children...

Sustainability
Our concept is Sustainability with a "God's Creation" focus.
As we move through the term our focus will move from the creation story to Recycling as a way to ensure we take care of and respect the gifts God has given us.
If you could send some recycling along during the week, such as cereal boxes, muesli bar boxes, yoghurt containers, glad wrap rolls etc... they would be most welcome.
We will use them to sort into categories and then design and create a piece of art work.
Reduce, reuse and recycle will be our focus.

Head lice
There is head lice going around again. Please check your child's hair and treat if necessary.

Thank you all for the amazing effort getting your children to school on time with lovely food they need for learning.
Room 9 is a great community of learners and it is my pleasure teaching them.

Have a lovely week everyone.
Eliana.

New tab
I have added a new tab along the top of our blog titled Weekly notices.
From next week you will need to click on this to read the notices.
Our home page will be posts about our learning and photos of the children.

Homework
The children have settled really well into their learning this term, and are working hard each day to do their best. Please keep up the wonderful support at home with their spelling and reading. It really makes a difference!!!
Also, thank you for the valuable comments in your child's reading log. It is okay to take turns reading with your child, or even read to your child if it becomes a bit much for them.

This week your child will also have a maths worksheet to complete at home. For some children it will be an easy independent activity. For others, you will need to read the instructions to them and guide their learning.

Please remember that homework should be enjoyable for both you and your child.

Have a lovely week.
Eliana.
